Thousands of people have marched in Tokyo to mark the start of the first ever Rainbow Week in Japan. Organisers of the parade estimated that 12,000 people took place in the parade on Sunday. Organiser Hiroko Masuhara, 35, said “This is our first attempt to link up with many groups of sexual minorities. The parade is a symbolic event in the Rainbow Week programme.” Masuhara said support for gay rights was rising in Japan. “We have the impression that we are seeing more women and various nationalities of people participating in our parade in recent years.”
