Gay filmmaker's doco not showing at Out Takes

Sat 27 Apr 2013 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

A Wellington documentary-maker is expressing disappointment, and understanding, at his film Beneath the Wigs not screening at New Zealand’s LGBT film festival Out Takes. Andy Boreham says the festival organisers were keen to screen the film but have found that it has already been viewed by many potential audience members via its screenings on BBC Knowledge. “It's a real shame that Out Takes audiences in Auckland and Wellington won't be able to enjoy Beneath the Wigs on the big screen with ice cream and popcorn,” Boreham says. “Of course I completely understand their concern but was crossing my fingers anyway.” Boreham says the film is slowly being submitted to international film festivals and hopes to have more success there. “I’m really excited about the possibility of international audiences getting to hear the stories of Dan, Brendan, and Adam,” he says. “Their stories, I think, will resonate with people around the world, especially people who have men who do drag in their lives.” Beneath the Wigs will continue to screen on BBC Knowledge in New Zealand throughout 2013, and on the channel in Australia soon.
