Gay conman jailed for North Island crime spree

Sat 20 Apr 2013 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

A gay conman has been jailed for two years and eight months for 76 charges arising from a crime spree, where he visited gay homestays under various names and left without paying. David Nepia Carroll also stole items ranging from small personal effects to several cars including a late model Audi. He also took cash and credit cards and illegally withdrew money from people's bank accounts. Carroll won people over with his stories of his estranged Greek husband and being a professional chef. He was arrested in an Auckland bar last August after some quick detective work by the son of one of the owners of Black Sands Lodge in Piha, one of the places he'd stayed.
