Fri 19 Apr 2013 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Governor-General Sir Jerry Mataparae The Governor General has this morning given the Royal Assent and signed the Marriage (Definition of Marriage) Bill into law. “Congratulations New Zealand, now it’s finally official. We can't wait for the joyous weddings in four months’ time,” the Campaign for Marriage Equality has quickly responded. The Department of Internal Affairs now has to amend its forms and certificates, alter its computer systems, provide information to the public and celebrants about the changes and train staff who conduct registry office marriages. It has four months to do so, which means the first same-sex weddings will be in August.
