Spill-over room secured for third reading

Tue 16 Apr 2013 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

UPDATE: The Legislative Council Chamber has been secured as a spill-over venue for anyone who wants to be at Parliament for the third reading of the marriage equality Bill. This is also where the community will be able to hear speeches and thank all those who have fought for equality. EARLIER: Moves to organise a ‘spill-over room’ for the many people in the GLBT community who want to watch the third reading of the marriage equality Bill at Parliament have been shot down by the Speaker. With the public gallery booked out, work went into getting Parliament’s Grand Hall open and live streaming the debate and reading. However permission has been declined by Parliament's Speaker. Newstalk ZB reports that because David Carter thinks accomodation should also be made for the anti-equality side. While MPs haven’t given up, the third reading will be screened at three Wellington venues, including the San Francisco Bath House, which will also host the official after celebration.
