A Zambian activist has been arrested after arguing for gay rights to be respected as human rights, in a live TV appearance. Paul Kasonkomona was taken into custody by police who were waiting outside the studios of privately owned Muvi TV in the capital. He has been charged with “inciting the public to take part in indecent activities”. Sources at the television station told AFP that police tried to stop the interview and take Kasonkomona off air, but the management refused. South Africa-based campaign group Ndifuna Ukwazi demanded Kasonkomona's release, in an online petition addressed to Zambia's President Michael Sata. Sex is illegal between both gay and lesbian couples in Zambia.
