[Content warning] Hayden Miles Gruesome evidence has been presented at the High Court in Christchurch this afternoon, recounting the last hours of gay youth Hayden Miles' life and sparking an outburst from the accused. The jury has heard that after brutally beating Miles and apparently leaving the teen to die overnight on a couch, accused killer Gavin Gosnell initially used a knife to cut into the deceased's body and when that was ineffectual he used a jig saw. The witness, Nicolette Vaux-Phillips, who is speaking from behind a curtained-off witness stand, said Gosnell had turned up the radio loudly "in case he [Miles] woke up" before he cut the body into twelve pieces. It this point the accused, who had been listening to this part of her testimony intently, became agitated and called out "For real? You think I would cut up someone who was alive?" He was cautioned by Justice Lester Chisholm to remain silent and sobs were heard from behind the curtain. A recess was immediately called. Vaux-Phillips was a friend of Miles and was in a relationship with Gosnell at the time.
