John Tamihere A major slump in audience ratings indicates the proportion of Aucklanders listening to anti-gay radio host John Tamihere has dropped to close to the margin of error for the latest radio ratings survey. As part of an overall 40% drop in the six-monthly ratings for nationally broadcast RadioLive, the station's noon to 4pm period, which includes the period co-hosted by Tamihere, has fallen from 2.7% of Auckland's estimated 952,000 available commercial radio listeners to 1.4%. Market leader NewstalkZB, by comparison, reaches 17.9% of those listeners. A quick calculation indicates that just over 13,000 Auckland listeners have stayed with Tamihere who has become notorious over the years for unapologetically stirring up anti-gay feeling. National listenership figures are not yet available to GayNZ.com. Having in the past been a Labour Member of Parliament he was recently re-admitted to the party and is understood to possibly be considering a return to politics.
