France’s Senate is debating President Francois Hollande's marriage equality bill, amidst protests are its opponents demand a referendum. Several large demonstrations against it have caught the Socialist government off guard, Reuters reports. It says hundreds of protesters waving flags with the words "Jobs, not gay marriage" have near the Senate under drizzling rain, surrounded by riot police trucks. The Bill is expected to pass in the Senate, with the vote due to finish on 13 April.
