Global support as debate hits Supreme Court

Wed 27 Mar 2013 In: International News View at NDHA

True Blood's take on the logo People all over the globe have changed their Facebook and Twitter profile picture to a pink and red version of the Human Rights Campaign logo, as the US Supreme Court takes on two marriage equality cases. Beyoncé and Madonna and George Takei are among those on-board, while TV show True Blood shared a version of the photo with vampire fangs as part of the equal sign. The HRC Director of Marketing Anastasia Khoo says “By harnessing the passion that equality supporters feel for the freedom of loving and committed couples to marry, the internet is awash in a sea of red - the colour of love.” Supporters spilled over to the other side of the roadway. "Gay, straight, black, white, marriage is a civil right," the crowd chanted at one point, followed by "we honour this moment with love". The Supreme Court is holding a hearing on California’s marriage ban, and will also begin to consider an appeal against The Defense of Marriage Act. The grounds outside the US Supreme Court were packed as people from both sides of the debate gathered. Decisions by the Supreme Court in both cases are expected by the end of June.
