A father whose note to his gay son touched people across the globe says it’s sad that the main reason it went viral is that such love and acceptance is all too rare. "It's great that so many people loved this little note I wrote on scratch paper. Had I know millions would read it I would have used better penmanship though,” Jon says in a letter to FCKH8. The group shared the gorgeous letter Jon wrote to his son Nate, where he says “I’ve known you were gay since you were six. I’ve loved you since you were born.” Jon says it’s sad that the main reason it went viral on the net was that this kind of love and acceptance is all too rare, and people seem hungry for it. “Dads, love your kids for who they are - gay or straight. Kids don't chose to be gay but you can choose to be a good parent and love them either way,” he says. “It's pretty easy, just don't be a jerk and make them feel bad for the way that your genes made them. My son is one of three kids my wife and I are blessed to have and we love them all. My only disappointment in Nate is that he brought home OJ with pulp and he knows we all hate pulp. It gets stuck in your teeth." Nate says the internet reaction to his dad's note to me has really touched his family. “We live in a small town in Michigan and who knew something so simple could have such a big impact around the world.” Nate says because he lives in “Farmville, USA,” and coming out at his school would be hard right now, he hasn’t done any of the many TV interviews that have been requested. “But we have been so inspired by all the support that we are working on a plan (and the courage) to share our story in front of the cameras so stay tuned.”
