Family wants answers over Doug Hughes' death

Mon 4 Mar 2013 In: New Zealand Daily News

Members of Corporal Douglas Hughes’ family will hold a meeting to see how they can push for an open inquest into his death. Coroner Gordon Matenga has ruled Corporal Hughes' death in Afghanistan was suicide, but did not open an inquest, and has suppressed a Defence Force Court of Inquiry. Corporal Hughes' family is concerned the soldier was bullied about his sexuality before he died and want a full inquest into whether he was given the help he needed. They will comment further after a family meeting is held and their next step is established.
