Parade and Festival will return, Mayor promises

Sat 16 Feb 2013 In: New Zealand Daily News

Auckland Mayor Len Brown has voiced total commitment to Council backing for another Auckland Pride Festival next year. “It’s been wonderful to see the turnout today,” he told GayNZ.com Daily News just after the last float went past the GABA Glamstand. “The spirit shown by everyone involved in the parade and the festival,” he remarked. “And it’s been such a lot of fun.” Brown added: “When the council approved funding for the festival we didn’t want to just dip our toes in the project, we were confident it would be popular with the gay community and that the parade in particular would be popular with the people of Auckland. “Of course there’ll be a parade next year," he says. "And although I am just one voice on the Council I am right behind it.”
