Gay rapper Pope Bron After further investigation this evening the NZAF has advised that its staff in charge of the Get It On Big Gay Out main stage entertainment shut down a contentious rap performance before it was otherwise due to end. Many people walked away from the entertainment area and others were left shaking their heads when gay rapper Pope Bron unleashed a torrent of crude and misogynist language during his late-afternoon set. The Foundation says he was scheduled to perform three raps. "Due to the nature of the lyrics the NZAF staff backstage decided to end his segment after two songs," says NZAF spokesperson Mike George. "So we did recognise that some people in the crowd may have been offended and we took immediate steps to minimise further offense." "While we regret any offense that may have been caused by the act in question, and we would like to recognise that the crowd's reception of the event was overall overwhelmingly positive,"he adds. George says the work that the staff of the NZAF put into the event "has been immense. This has resulted in an incredibly successful event." The Foundation says an estimated 14,000 people attended the Big Gay Out this year.
