Wed 23 Jan 2013 In: International News View at Wayback

Supporters kiss a wounded gay activist outside the Duma A demonstration against punitive anti-gay law proposals has turned violent when religious supporters of the bill attacked gays outside the State Duma in Moscow yesterday. Punches were thrown and police and at least one Duma deputy intervened to halt the violence. About 30 glbt activists had met at noon for an event called "Kissing Day" to protest a proposed ban on "homosexual propaganda." Gay and lesbian couples posed for photographs at the entrance to the Duma building while kissing. But Orthodox church activists showed up at the event and tried to break it up, throwing eggs and tomato sauce at the couples and even attacking them when they started to kiss. Several journalists covering the Kissing Day were also attacked
