In the first inaugural speech by a US president to mention gays, Barak Obama has signaled his intention to advance equal rights for glbti people. Obama referenced New York's Stonewall uprising in 1969, the most defining moment of the start of the modern gay rights movement in the western world. "Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law," he said, "for if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well."
