Community meeting to discuss K'Road violence

Tue 15 Jan 2013 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Karangahape Road Following the latest attack on a gay man near Auckland's Karangahape Road an open community meeting is being organised to discuss the problem and identify solutions. In the latest of an on-going spate of attacks a young gay man was assaulted and repeatedly kicked in the head last Wednesday night just off what has long been New Zealand's gayest street. Co-organised by Rainbow Youth, which itself has an office on K' Road, the meeting aims "to see how we can make our street safe for our community," says Karen Ritchie who is supporting the latest victim. It is hoped the K' Road business Association and the police will attend, along with glbti groups and businesses from the area. The meeting will be open to the public and Ritchie says anyone with an interest or a point of view is welcome to attend. A date and venue for the meeting have yet to be confirmed but it is likely to take place within three to four weeks and details will be carried on GayNZ.com Daily News as soon as they become available.
