Sun 13 Jan 2013 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

NewstalkZB host Bruce Russell A NewstalkZB host has apologised for deriding Ali Mau as a "dyke' on Friday night after a strong reaction from listeners and Mau supporters. Bruce Russell commented viv a vis the lineup for the new TV One Seven Sharp series to be fronted by Mau, an open bisexual who first confirmed her sexuality through GayNZ.com Daily News, and Greg Boyed: "Is it ok for this programme to be populated by a dyke and a clown?" After an instantaneous and angry listener response Russell apologised on air within the hour but the network's GM says he has now also apologised to Mau and TVNZ. He sought to explain the comment by saying to the Herald on Sunday that "It's the  nature of live radio that hosts sometimes say things they later regret."
