K' Rd attack victim has no memory of assault

Sat 29 Dec 2012 In: New Zealand Daily News

The victim of an unprovoked attack near Auckland's K' Rd is suffering from concussion and has no memory of what happened. The 23-year-old gay man was set upon as he walked on Mercury Lane, near the city's gay nightlife on Friday night. While he tells GayNZ.com Daily News he "can't remember a thing," his flatmate was with him when he was attacked.  The flatmate says a man "body-slammed" through a group of gay men, then punched the victim and slammed him face-first into the concrete. The man had to be pulled off by his "cousins" as he continued his attack. The victim is now at home recovering. "I have a few fractures in my cheekbone and just near my left eye, some stitches in my chin. Half my face is numb, and I am extremely tired. My head hurts like crazy and I have to take a lot of drugs over the next few days to make sure I get better." He has thanked all those who helped him after the attack, especially friends and staff at GLBT-friendly venue Eagle Bar. "I just wish I could remember what happened," he says.
