Gay man victim of unprovoked K' Rd bashing

Fri 28 Dec 2012 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

File photo Warnings are being issued in Auckland's GLBT community after a gay man was bashed in an unprovoked attack on Karangahape Rd last night. The 23-year-old has fractures in his cheekbone, concussion and stitches for cuts on his face. He is now at home recovering and has little memory of what happened. A witness says a man "body-slammed" through a group of gay men, then punched the victim and slammed him face-first into the concrete. The man had to be pulled off by his "cousins" as he continued his attack. Messages are being circulated warning GLBT community members, and urging people to remind politicians and the police that gay, bi, lesbian and trans people have the right to walk to their choice of venue without being attacked. Police are investigating but the officer in charge has not yet been contactable by GayNZ.com Daily News.
