Poll shows age divide over marriage equality

Thu 27 Dec 2012 In: New Zealand Daily News

A new poll shows a glaring age-based difference in the attitudes to marriage equality, with older New Zealanders more likely to be against it. A Herald-DigiPoll survey says 60 per cent of respondents older than 65 said marriage should remain only between a man and a woman. For those under 40, 70 per cent said the law should be changed. Overall, 59 per cent of survey respondents backed marriage equality and 38 per cent were against - compared to 54 and 41 per cent in June. Five hundred people were interviewed in the second week of December, and has a margin of error of 4.4 per cent.
