Urzila Carlson wins best female comedian, again

Mon 17 Dec 2012 In: New Zealand Daily News

New Zealand’s favourite South African import Urzila Carlson has been named the nation’s best female comedian for the third year running. The self-mocking lesbian took out the prize from the NZ Comedy Guild at the Classic in Auckland last night. Carlson has again been highly-visible this year, both on the comedy circuit and in regular appearances on TV3’s 7 Days. Her continued success and comes after the natural laugh-gatherer started off in comedy on a dare from workmates. She says she is both happy and surprised at her latest award, which she can add to two others – and the NZ Comedy Guild Best Newcomer Award and the Andrew Kovacevich Memorial Cup. Carlson was also nominated for the Billy T Comedy Award in 2011.
