Colombia: Couple displays “two Josephs” nativity

Sun 16 Dec 2012 In: International News

A Colombian couple have raised the ire of their more conservative neighbours, and the Catholic Church, by displaying a nativity scene with two dads – both Josephs. Andrés Vásquez and Felipe Cárdenas say they created the scene because they believe in Colombia, and want the nation to introduce full marriage equality. It currently has civil unions – and the couple had one four years ago. Last year, the nation's Constitutional Court ruled Colombia must extend marriage rights to same-sex couples within two years. The national Catholic Church has issued a statement condemning the display as 'sacrilege'.
