Beneath the Wigs to be unveiled on Monday

Thu 29 Nov 2012 In: New Zealand Daily News

Wellington filmmaker Andy Boreham’s drag-inspired short Beneath the Wigs debuts on BBC Knowledge on Monday night, and as he is currently studying in China he will be “glued to Facebook” waiting to see what people think. The student, filmmaker and former gay event producer is one of five recipients of the BBC Knowledge New Zealand Young Producer Shorts, which are a joint initiative between BBC Knowledge and New Zealand’s Screen Production and Development Association. Boreham says his film is a raw and real look at the men behind three Wellington drag personas, underneath the public front. “They talk about the struggles, the stereotypes, the inner conflicts, and more. I hope people see drag from a different angle when they watch Beneath the Wigs,” he says” Boreham is pretty excited about his work hitting the airwaves: “So often things you create to be seen don't always have a guaranteed audience, so the fact that our little film will screen a bunch of times in New Zealand with BBC Knowledge is super exciting! “It will also play on the channel in Australia starting next year, and who knows where else from there (we'll have to see how the response is). “I'm still in China studying but I'll be glued to Facebook waiting to hear what people thought, haha.” Beneath the Wigs will premiere in New Zealand on BBC Knowledge (on SKY TV) on Monday 3 December at 9:30pm. If you miss the premiere it will be repeated over a year – check your listings.
