A global outcry is mounting about an Alabama teenager’s brutal attack on his sister’s girlfriend, who he assaulted because he doesn’t approve of their relationship. Mallory Owens reportedly experienced a brain bleed and skull fractures, and needed reconstructive facial surgeries face after the Thanksgiving Day bashing: Mallory Owens before and after the attack Travis Hawkins Jr. Her attacker 18-year-old Travis Hawkins Jr. turned himself in on Sunday for second degree assault charges, but was released on a bail bond the same day. There are reports his family stood by and did not intervene, at the Thanksgiving Day dinner Owens had been invited to. Owens’ family and friends want the charges upgraded to attempted murder. Her mother has told local network News 5 it is a hate crime and they cannot believe her alleged attacker is walking free. Pictures of Owens’ injuries are being shared on social networks across the globe, and a petition is being signed urging authorities to bring Hawkins Jr to justice.
