Bears pawing into Christchurch for big weekend

Thu 15 Nov 2012 In: New Zealand Daily News

Last minute registrations for Christchurch’s Big Bear Weekend will be taken at tonight’s opening night function at the fittingly-named Honeypot Café. The massive weekend, which is part of Christchurch Pride, will kick off with Bear Drinks at the Colombo St café.  Organisers Brett, Ralph and Richie say all bears, cubs, otters, wolves, friends and admirers, blokey blokes and other men who like men, are invited. Bears from across the country, and the Tasman, have registered. Registrations will be open, the last time events will be available at discount rates – there will be limited casual sales from tomorrow. Sales are by cash or internet transfer only. The drinks will also give bears to get their first look at the Mr Canterbury Bear contestants as they sell raffles and work the room. Tomorrow there is a day trip to Hanmer Springs, followed by a movie night where the doco Men Like Us will be screened. On Saturday there will be a dinner at Burgers and Bears Inc after which Mr Bear Canterbury will be crowned at the same venue. On Sunday there will be a farewell barbecue.
