File photo More than 20,000 submissions have been made on a bill which would allow gay and transgender New Zealanders full marriage rights. The submissions are still being counted and a final number is not yet available, nor is a breakdown on how many are against and how many are for. However, more than 10,000 submissions were made through the site www.marriageequality.co.nz alone. Many of the submissions against the Bill are believed to be “form submissions” while those in favour are packed with personal stories. When civil unions were debated, 6,350 submissions were made. A schedule of oral hearings is yet to be confirmed.
