Mon 5 Nov 2012 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

MacKay and Key on The Farming Show on Friday Prime Minister John Key says his description of a radio host’s top as “gay” was used to mean it was weird. He has told media he picked the term up from his teenage son: "If someone was offended by it then I apologise but it's not exactly like a term you don't hear everywhere." He added: "I voted for gay marriage, I'm hardly homophobic. I led the charge on it." Key used the jibe to make fun of The Farming Show host Jamie Mackay, when he co-hosted the radio show on Friday.
