A report has emerged from Wellington that a local sanctuary could be home to New Zealand’s first-ever transgender korimako. Staff at the Karori eco-sanctuary Zealandia have nicknamed the youngster the ''butch bellbird'', because it has DNA tested as female but acts like a male, and has a mix of each sex's plumage. "There's something we can't pin down. We haven't seen anything like this before," conservation officer Erin Jeneway has told the Dominion Post. You can read more here
