A group which began on Facebook has become formal, and is now working on goals and aims focused on advancing matters important to transsexual New Zealanders. Transsexuals of New Zealand has held its first meeting in Auckland and elected Roxane Peoples-Henare as Chair. Racheal McGonigal is Treasurer and Secretary, while the other members are Jasmine Eastall, Louise Gizzi and Jade Holt. McGonigal says the Facebook group has already achieved a great deal with getting many important stories out, and working closely with Auckland Distraict Health Board and Ministry of Health to see guidelines for the treatment of transgender patients are used. She says transsexuals and transgender patients can now ask for their names and gender to be changed and no 'proof' needs to be supplied “Our Facebook page is open for all to see and read. We are not a hidden, secretive group but want to be part of the real world and understood for who we are,” McGonigal adds.
