Nominations are open for three elected positions on the New Zealand AIDS Foundation’s governing body, and people with expertise in law or Maori tikanga are being sought, as are HIV positive people, female, transgender, Pacific Island, African or Asian nominees. Former Chair Alastair Cameron has not yet been replaced on the Board, although sitting member Andrew Sweet has since been made Chair. Board Member Kaine Thompson is coming to the end of his two year term, while Christian Bimbola-Ogbah stood down in July due to other commitments, but will continue to volunteer at the Foundation. NZAF Executive Director Shaun Robinson has thanked the men for their “tireless dedication to their roles” and wishes them well in their future endeavours. Board Chair Andrew Sweet has also thanked the trio. He says the Board needs qualified and enthusiastic candidates to stand. “Participating on the Trust Board is demanding, but is an outstanding way to serve both the NZAF and the communities affected by HIV and AIDS,” he says. Nominees should be aware of the significant amount of time required of any Trust Board member, including a number of full-day Board meetings each year, plus travel, additional meetings and sub-committee time, as required.” Sweet says the Board particularly needs people expertise in the areas of law and Maori tikanga. It’s also encouraging nominations from HIV positive people, regardless of their disclosure status, and female, transgender, Pacific Island, African or Asian nominees. “The Trust Board would particularly welcome nominations from Auckland-based members. Many of those whom the NZAF strives to serve live in Auckland, and so it is important that the Trust Board has strong Auckland-based representation,” Sweet says. He adds that anyone considering stepping forward is welcome to contact current Trust Board members to discuss the commitment required.
