Lock up your daughters and frock up your sons, the Drag Kings are back with a brand new spanking show. Wellington's favourite cross-dressing 'boys' will be strutting our stuff in our new show, Pisstakes, at Downstage Theatre, 11 - 13 May, at 8pm. There won't be a dry seat in the house as we take the piss out of religion, rugby and rebels without a cause. Nothing and no-one is sacred. Even you Bishop Brian Tamaki! (We know you're reading this. Haven't you got some books to burn?!) Come and see the celebrities and nobodies that the Drag Kings will lovingly parody. Prince, Sam Hunt, Tom Cruise, Bishop Brian, Margaret Thatcher (now that's real drag!), your Uncle Bill... who knows? This is comedy, music and dance for anyone who is a man or a woman or thinking of becoming one. Some content is designed to offend. The Drag Kings formed in late 2001. Five years later and our troupe has gone from strength to strength, wowing audiences at the Wellington Fringe Festival, Auckland, Palmerston North, Christchurch and Melbourne. We've been twice nominated for the Fringe's comedy award (both years we performed) and have received much critical acclaim along the way. The icing on the cake to date was performing at New Zealand's creme de la creme theatre, Downstage. It's not just about some of us looking good in sideburns and stubbies... we're not too shabby in frocks either. We're into poking fun and like taking the piss out of typical stereotypes, celebrities, women, men and inanimate objects. Most of all we like taking the piss out of ourselves and dicking around with gender and sexuality. Our unique comedy style is 'out there' and seems to have endeared us to not only our own community but also to mainstream audiences. Whether you're straight, gay, lesbian, trans, mothers, brothers, dads or grans, we can assure you that we appeal to everyone., having been described as clever, cute and contagious and so funny "I laughed until I nearly puked". Currently we are having a documentary made about us after a director/producer saw us perform at the 2005 GLBT fair and was impressed enough to want to tell our story. We're really looking forward to putting our brand NEW show on at Downstage PISSTAKES - It's Reigning Men.
