A group of Wellington lesbians are getting on their bikes to raise money awareness about New Zealanders living with secondary breast cancer. The five women leave Otaki on 2 November, giving themselves five days to get to Auckland in time for a Radiohead concert. Accommodation and support has been donated along the way by local businesses and individuals and they are seeking pledges of support through their Fundraise online page This Saturday the group of friends, led by Jenni Drew, will ride down Cuba Street, encouraging people to meet them and support their Sweet Louise 'Sweet Cycle Challenge' where they hope to raise $10,000 for the charity. Sweet Louise helps people with secondary breast cancer by providing therapies, support and services. The fundraisers will be by the bucket fountain from 10AM until 6PM with a tandem bike, which anyone can have a go on. “I have seen first-hand through my work the incredible difference the charity makes to people with secondary breast cancer," Drew says. "Over 2,700 New Zealand women and men are diagnosed with primary breast cancer every year and for about 400 of these people, the cancer will spread to other parts of the body, progressing to secondary stage. The cancer is incurable at this advanced stage and is managed by on-going treatments."
