Auckland gay bar DNA announces closure

Thu 13 Sep 2012 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Gay Auckland bar and nightclub DNA has been closed after a year, which its owners say is a “business decision”. A message on the bar’s Facebook page apologises to “all DNA supporters and fans and most of all the people that booked their events with us." The bar is at the former site of Kamo, a long-running gay bar and café. It was extensively revamped last year and reopened last September. High-flying director and frontman Toby Steele suddenly left New Zealand in February, and Cindy of Samoa had been keeping things running since. “We would like to say thank you for all your support. We wouldn't have made it this far if it wasn't for you," Cindy says. “We do hope that you treasure some good memories of your happy moments at DNA. Thank you again and all the best.”
