Family First is fuming after its ‘protect marriage’ website was deemed “hate” and blocked by Dunedin City Council’s web filter. The anti-equality group says it’s highly hypocritical and inconsistent that one side of the debate can be blocked, but not the other. “This is discrimination at its worst and Dunedin City Council seems to be initiating their own version of hate speech laws,” says spokesman Bob McCoskrie. He further claims: “Activists are working hard to eliminate all opposing debate on this important family issue – as we experienced with the unprecedented hacking of our website when first launched.” Dunedin City Council has told the Otago Daily Times it does not control the filtering process, which is done by a United States company. Meanwhile GayNZ.com Daily News is hearing complaints about people trying to debate marriage equality on Protect Marriage’s Facebook page having their comments removed and being blocked by its administrators. LIVE COVERAGE GayNZ.com Daily News will report live from Wednesday's Marriage Equality street march through downtown Wellington and throughout the bill's presentation to Parliament, with team coverage from our journalists and photographers along the march route, within the Parliamentary Press Gallery and amongst the bill's supporters in the public gallery.
