All Black expresses support for marriage equality

Thu 23 Aug 2012 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Adam Thomson All Black Adam Thomson has broken down a massive barrier, openly expressing support for marriage equality. The 30-year-old Highlanders loose forward has Tweeted: “Full support to @tamati_coffey for marriage equality.. This country should be leading the way on civil rights, echoing the deeds of our past.” He later added: “It’s a no brainer for me, should have happened years ago! #MarriageEquality” It follows in the footsteps of fellow flanker, Australian captain David Pocock, who has boycotted marriage along with his partner until their gay friends have the same right. Thomson will not play against the Wallabies this weekend unless there is a last minute injury, but is among three players in a tight battle for the number 6 jersey. LIVE COVERAGE GayNZ.com Daily News will report live from Wednesday's Marriage Equality street march and throughout the bill's presentation to Parliament, with team coverage from our journalists and photographers along the march route, within the Parliamentary Press Gallery and amongst the bill's supporters in the public gallery.
