Official Ugandan sites hacked by gay activists

Fri 17 Aug 2012 In: International News

Gay rights activists have hacked several Ugandan government websites and posted messages slamming the harassment of gay and lesbian Ugandans. A controversial bill that initially proposed hanging gays is before a parliamentary committee, where it has stalled. A hacker who used the Twitter social media name @PinkNinj4 has defaced several government websites including those of the Prime Minister's office, Parliament, the Uganda Securities Exchange and Uganda Law Society. "Message to the government of Uganda: you want to put people to death only because they have different likings," read one posting. "How ... disgusting. There's no need to put people to death for this, and we'll not tolerate it," another said. A picture of the recent Uganda Pride was posted with the message "Real Ugandan Pride". "Hijacking our websites and using strategies of blackmail to promote their dark agendas is unacceptable to us," government spokeswoman Karoro Okurut has responded.
