The steamer Earnslaw heads out with the Remarkables behind cloaked in snow clouds Regular light snowfalls are leading to optimism that the Remarkables and Coronet Peak skifields will be in good shape for Gay Ski Week which begins in just under two weeks' time. Gay Ski Week organiser Sally Whitewoods says light falls are accumulating on the two fields which should provide great conditions for the hundreds of gay and lesbian skiers due to descend on Queenstown for a range of sporting and social activities which start on August 25th. "It was snowing yesterday afternoon and into the evening," Whitewoods says, "and although I'm not quite sure how much has been added to the fields there is sure to be even more before the festival starts so we should all be having a great time.” Sally Whitewoods Whitewoods says one of her favourite events this year will be the casino night in the restaurant at the top of the Skyline Gondola ride. "I'll be a great night with excellent food and lots of fun and having the lights of Queenstown spread out around the lake below us... just magic!" In a departure from past years most of the events will be staffed by local gay and lesbian people on the doors and Whitewoods says this should ensure an even friendlier and welcoming atmosphere for visitors.
