"Homosexuality isn't a choice Colin," Wall explains

Sat 4 Aug 2012 In: New Zealand Daily News

Conservative Party leader Colin Craig has been given a schooling from Louisa Wall after claiming gay people are more likely to have been abused as children and being gay is a choice. "I think most people recognise that there are other influences such as upbringing, such as events in life," he stated on TV3 The Nation this morning. "For homosexuals, they are statistically far more likely to have suffered child abuses as a child... It certainly can make a difference in someone's choices in life, there's no question about that in my mind." Craig also repeated his belief people choose to be gay, leading lesbian Labour MP Louisa Wall to make it clear: "Homosexuality isn't a choice Colin. People are born the way they're born and everyone has the right in our society to be what they are, and this is a very important issue for our young people, because we have high rates of youth suicide in New Zealand because our young people aren't empowered to be who they are. This is a critical issue for our country."
