One of the meme's doing the rounds Colin Craig’s comments on marriage equality have led to a barrage of merciless mocking on social media with the intro “it’s not intelligent …” It follows a statement from the Conservative Party leader’s Twitter account that it is "not intelligent to pretend that homosexual relationships are normal". “#itsnotintelligent to pretend the Conservative Party isn't really just the Colin Craig Party,” says BruceBuckman. “#itsnotintelligent to pretend that Colin Craig is intelligent,” he further adds. “It’s not intelligent to pretend that Colin Craig is doing a good job promoting heterosexual marriage,” says @caffeine_addict. Labour member Jordan Carter says “it's not intelligent to pretend Colin Craig is normal either.” While @scottbartley warns “Everyone, stop enabling Colin Craig. His crazy feeds off your reTweets,” while @kieran_greaney can’t be bothered, tweeting “Instead of wasting brain power worrying about Colin Craig - I'm gonna have a cheeseburger.” @HandsMegan adds that “When Colin Craig puts out a press release I feel like some1 with really bad BO has just entered the room. No place for discrimination in NZ.” @davidfarrier says “when 1 person tries to define "normal", all logical arguments fall apart.” Over on GayNZ.com’s Facebook page, Kevin Scarlett has retorted “With a haircut like that.. I'm not surprised,” while Katie IloveGreece Grantopoulou says “Hate is what is not normal, Mr Craig.....” Andrew McKay says “Haters gonna Hate. And just a passing thought.... with the amount of support out there for this I would suspect he is now the minority group not ‘us’.” Jennifer L Purvis continues “I propose Mr. Craig use some of his millionaire money and put it into dental work and a good hair stylist instead of hate speech. Then his money would be working for him and his needs instead of destroying opportunities for equality.” Hans Versluys says “Who wants to be normal anyway?” to which Alan Knight says “Exactly. If Colin Craig is an example of 'normality' then who needs it.” Russell Brown from Public Address seems to sum things up with his tweet “It really has been good of @ColinCraigNZ to rally support behind marriage equality like this. Heck of a job, Col.” Gay Green MP Kevin Hague adds his thoughts, telling GayNZ.com Daily News: “obvious response is that the group he can actually claim in some way to represent is that 2.65 per cent. That seems more like a tiny minority than the two thirds of New Zealanders consistently shown to support marriage equality!” GayNZ.com - 27th July 2012
