Miss Spain (centre) performs 11.20PM: In a glittering grand final pageant Miss Spain has tonight taken the title of 2012 Queen of the Whole Universe. The massive drag pageant, a fundraiser for HIV charities, culminated in the announcement of the winner, who by day is Campbell Gordon, by head judge Alison Mau. Mau said Miss Spain took the title "by a wide margin." To the audience, which packed out Auckland's huge Aotea Centre auditorium, Mau said: "You know you wanted her to win, she's smoking hot!" Miss Spain presented a seamless and self-assured final production number which mixed elements of Lady Gaga with Alejandro, Ricky Martin, slapstick bullfighting and a spanish-language version of the camp disco classic I Will Survive. MC Brad Hills, who compered the show with drag duo Buffy and Bimbo, commented after Miss Spain's number that "I feel I just watched Ricky Martin bonking a Spanish Benny Hill!" Miss Vatican City performs Runner-up in the pageant was Miss Vatican City, who presented an unholy performance before a huge baroquely religious backdrop and utilised, amongst other props, a large pulpit and guttering candles. She was accompanied by dancers in rainbow-accented nuns' habits. You can discuss this New Zealand gay community news story in the GayNZ.com Forum.
