"I'm gay, always have been," Anderson Cooper

Tue 3 Jul 2012 In: International News

Anderson Cooper TV host and reporter Anderson Cooper has for the first time, on the record, stated he is gay, saying: “Always have been, always will be, and I couldn't be any more happy, comfortable with myself and proud.” The statement to blog the Daily Dish comes as no surprise, as Cooper’s sexuality was widely-known and he has even been listed among the most influential gay public figures, however it’s the first time he has ever publicly spoken about it. “It’s become clear to me that by remaining silent on certain aspects of my personal life for so long, I have given some the mistaken impression that I am trying to hide something - something that makes me uncomfortable, ashamed or even afraid. This is distressing because it is simply not true,” he wrote in an email. Cooper said he wanted to keep his private life private for the sake of his journalism career. “I still consider myself a reserved person and I hope this doesn’t mean an end to a small amount of personal space,” Anderson wrote. “But I do think visibility is important, more important than preserving my reporter’s shield of privacy.”
