Police swoop in on Moscow Pride march

Mon 28 May 2012 In: International News

Picture: AFP Moscow police have made 40 arrests after preventing an unsanctioned small gay pride march from going ahead. They arrested both gay activists and anti-gay protestors who turned up to Russian capital’s town hall. An AFP correspondent reports police dragged participants into waiting vans. Among those arrested was Russia’s most prominent gay rights activist Nikolai Alexeyev, who has tweeted: "It is a pity that Russia has finally turned into a totalitarian state. I have been arrested for opening my mouth in front of journalists.”
