Under the Rainbow raises more than $3,000

Sun 20 May 2012 In: New Zealand Daily News

Wellington’s Under the Rainbow art exhibition has raised $3,272, which will go towards funding Out in the Square. Exhibition organiser and Out Wellington Chairperson Andy Boreham says the quality of artworks donated this time was amazing. “We were simply overwhelmed by the support we received from the queer art communities of New Zealand, and so honoured that they wanted to help support a queer Wellington institution.” Boreham says that Under the Rainbow serves another important purpose: to promote queer art in New Zealand. “Some of our artists, for example, exhibited for their first time with this event, and received considerable profile from their work,” he says. “I know others felt new invigoration and excitement about their art, and that’s great.” Boreham says while there are no immediate plans for another exhibition, but one will definitely happen.
