West Auckland’s women’s group Lowdown is inviting all women to come along to its RUSH dance tonight, saying it’s a great chance make friends and perhaps even discover a spark of romance. “A group of us get together a few times a year, decorate a community hall, arrange a small cash bar, organise a lesbian DJ - and DJ Kel has the perfect balance of disco and newer stuff - to put on a dance we can all enjoy,” says organiser Cissy Rock. Tonight’s RUSH will be at the Ceramco Park Function Centre in Glen Eden from 8PM. “There are heaps of places to sit and a great dance floor. It’s a great chance to catch up with old friends and meet new ones and some women have even found love.” Lowdown doesn’t aim to make a profit, and if it has money left over it goes to its website and ever-popular events such as Dykes on Mics, and keeping equipment in order. “I broke a speaker the other night!” says Rock. Tickets are $10 from the Women’s Bookshop or $15 at the door.
