Hamilton Pride has confirmed it will hold a Candlelight Memorial Service on 20 May, ensuring Waikato is covered in the national day of commemorating the many lives lost as a result of AIDS. “Hamilton has had Candlelight Memorials in the last couple of years, except last year,” says Steffan Mutter from Hamilton Pride. “For some reason, they fell off the national radar and we are not sure why or how that happened.” The Hamilton event will be held at the University Chapel on the University of Waikato campus at 6.30PM. The Chapel is adjacent to the main carpark at Gate 1 off Knighton Rd, opposite the University Rec Centre. Mutter says everyone is welcome at no cost and there will be light refreshments afterwards. Guest speakers are currently being sought. Along with Hamilton, services have been confirmed for Whangarei, Auckland, New Plymouth, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and Invercargill. Details of the individual services are expected to be released soon. Kilmister says anyone considering running an event in any city or town anywhere in the country is welcome to contact him.
