Reverend David Clark A Presbyterian Minister who died this week is being remembered for bravely coming out to the church two decades ago. Reverend David John Clark died in his home in the Auckland suburb of Remuera on Tuesday, aged 65. He was minister of St Lukes in Remuera. Reverend Dr Margaret Mayman from St Andrew's on The Terrace in Wellington says many have been deeply saddened to hear of his death. "David made a unique and costly contribution to the PCANZ (Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand) when he came out as a gay man at the General Assembly in 1991," she says. "David was a gifted minister and progressive thinker. He will be deeply missed by his parish and his friends, especially by his gay and lesbian companions in the PCANZ." Dr Mayman will attend Reverend Clark's funeral, which will be held at St Lukes in Remuera on Wednesday at 2PM. A vigil is being held at the church.
