Auckland dance party Phoenix is rising again on the 24th of March, and its organisers are promising some pretty amazing and world class laser lighting that is sure to have gay partiers soaring at K’ Rd’s 4:20. Phoenix promises and delivers on two things: smoking hot men and scorching hot tunes. This time around it’s adding four brand new 5W full-colour lasers, which for non-AV geeks basically means world class production. The video below shows four M2 lasers in action at the last Phoenix, so with eight lasers all up we can understand why organiser Marty Roberts is somewhat excited about this month’s event. The DJs will be regulars Antony, Donald Bennett, Marty and new-comer Jonny Milk, and all will play sexy, driving club house. Roberts started organising events almost nine years ago with his partner, because they were despairing at the lack of gay dance parties in Auckland. They began with Salvation, which proved a sell-out, and their events were soon in hot demand. The team has since run a variety of gay dance parties ranging in size from intimate 150-person parties like the early Phoenix nights in the Galatos Basement, through to the large scale, 1,500-person HERO parties at Auckland architectural icons like the Civic and the St James. Roberts DJs himself and loves seeing people ‘go off’ on the dancefloor when he plays a hot track. "There is always a good energy on the dance floor and you get to see everyone enjoying themselves and having a good time. It makes all your hard work pay off," he has told GayNZ.com.
