Bathhouse venue proves popular with women

Wed 14 Mar 2012 In: New Zealand Daily News

Women aged 35-44 are snapping up tickets to Wellington’s upcoming dance party at the unique venue of a gay men’s bathhouse. Bathhouse Disco organisers say they were worried that the dance party’s location might put some members of the queer community off, but that hasn’t been the case. “We’re extremely relieved and excited that members from throughout the community are coming along to party,” says organiser Andy Boreham. While the ticketing company cannot provide statistics other than age and binary gender (male or female), the results so far prove that the wider community are open to progressive venues for queer events. In all, 21.5% of current ticket sales belong to women aged 35 – 44, followed by men aged 18 – 24 at 17%, and women aged 25 – 34 have bought 15% of tickets sold so far. Boreham says Emperor’s Bathhouse is an amazing and huge venue and he can’t wait to see it utilised by the wider community. “It’s somewhat a shame that usually only men get to enjoy this amazing venue – that will all change, at least for a night, with Bathhouse Disco.” Bathhouse Disco hits Wellington on Saturday 24 March. Presales are just $15 and available here
