Aucklander Andreas Derleth has claimed the title of Mr Gay NZ 2012, after a close-fought race which was spread across the Big Gay Out and a final at K’ Rd’s Family bar. The 32-year-old who goes by ‘Andy’ narrowly beat suave Mr Gay Wellington Marcus Fenson to take out the competition, and win an all-expenses paid trip to represent New Zealand at Mr Gay World in South Africa in April. Mr Gay NZ 2012 Andreas Derleth Derleth also won the public vote on Facebook, which made up 20 per cent of the score. The title was handed over by Mr Gay NZ 2011 Aaron Comis and special guest My Gay Canada Rob Goddard was on hand to award him the winner’s blue sash. The new Mr Gay NZ grew up in Germany but has made New Zealand his home after coming over for a working holiday and falling in love with the country. In his first week here the former altar boy was asked to be a promo model at the Hero Party, and was introduced to Auckland’s gay scene wearing nothing but black and gold underwear. He’s a keen sportsman and adventurer, as well as a passionate gay rights advocate. GayNZ.com congratulates Andy Derleth on the title and wishes him the best of luck for Mr Gay World!
